Mount Up With Wings As Eagles
Eagles are one of the most mentioned birds in the Bible. It is with no mistake that valuable lessons are intended for Christians to internalize and replicate from eagles in our own lives.
- Faithfulness: Eagles are monogamous with one mate for life. They are faithful to their family in leading their home by co-parenting, taking turns incubating their eggs and hunting for prey. They remain faithful to their commitments in their leadership roles. He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4
- Focus: The perfect vision for humans is typically described as "20/20" or seeing things clearly from a distance of 20 feet away. An eagle, however, has one of the best peripheral and distant visions at 20/4 and can easily see their prey from over 3 miles away in crisp colors and ultraviolet light, allowing for a magnitude of precision on their target. The eagle never loses focus and its prey is as good as dead. Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish. Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- Fearless: Most birds will hide or escape when they sense an oncoming storm; however, the eagle seems to cherish the storm as he readjusts his wings to fly at great heights above it. Eagles will face their challenges no matter the size of their adversary or adversity; they refuse to surrender in fear or self-pity. Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
As Christians, are we living this demonstrated life that God has symbolized throughout the Bible? His word teaches us to be faithful to our responsibilities as a Christian in prayer, reading God's word, attending church, teaching and demonstrating a life of Christ to our family, friends, and co-workers. We are to remain focused on our Christian walk by dying to self daily and eliminating the barriers that try to break our focus on Christ. The storms of life are inevitable, but with the Lord's strength and guidance we can soar above the storm in fearlessness with greater heights than ever before.
God has provided us with his word that proves the eagle's character for Christians to follow: Paul was faithful to the end and tells believers to remain faithful and focused as we run the Christian race to the finish line. David was faithful, focused, and fearless in Christ as he approached his giant enemy, Goliath. Peter was faithful, focused, and fearless as he stepped out onto the water until he took his eyes off of Jesus.
May we continue to be faithful, focused, and fearless in our walk for Christ. May we mount up with wings as eagles and soar!! Isaiah 40:31 They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
